The Association of Civil Enforcement Agencies

There are a number of major private sector organisations enforcing court orders in both civil and criminal matters who have for some time been concerned that no proper mechanism exists, within their industry, to deal with complaints against individual bailiffs or companies employing bailiffs.

To help promote civil enforcement industry standards and respond to Government initiatives, private employers of certificated bailiffs and other staff engaged in the business came together to create an umbrella organisation to be called the Association of Civil Enforcement Agencies (ACEA).

Consequently, the Association operates an independent complaints panel to deal with complaints that cannot be resolved by the company concerned or by the appropriate trade association.

During the four years of its existence, ACEA has had a major impact on the enforcement scene, not least through its participation in LCD and DETR initiatives relating to the effectiveness and fairness of enforcement generally. The creation of ACEA was important to show both Government and the general public that we are capable of policing our industry internally.

We believe that our activities will standardise industry procedures and add further quality to the services our members offer
